AFTERCARE GUIDELINES:
Aftercare routines may vary among artists. There isn't a single correct approach; it varies based on your tattoo and skin type. If uncertain, please consult with and follow your artist's recommendations.
Aftercare Bandage (second skin) Instructions:
- Keep the bandage on for either 6 days or for the duration instructed by your artist.
- If the bandage (second skin) begins to fall off during that time:
· Use lukewarm water to help gently peel off the remainder of the second skin.
· Gently wash the tattoo with unscented liquid soap using clean hands.
- Following bandage (second skin) removal:
· Cleanse the tattoo with non-scented soap and water three (3) times a day for seven (7) days.
· Gently pat your tattoo dry with a clean paper towel after each wash.
· Apply a very thin layer of the aftercare ointment after every wash three (3) times a day for the next seven (7) days.
· After applying the aftercare ointment for seven (7) days, switch to applying a thin layer of non-scented lotion two (2) to three (3) times a day for the next two weeks.
· Avoid submerging your tattoo in water (e.g., lakes, the ocean, pools, bathtubs) for at least one month after your appointment.
THE HEALING PROCESS:
- Expect itchiness and peeling within a few days. Do not scratch or pick at the tattoo; allow any scabs to peel off naturally.
- Swelling and redness may occur for up to a week.
- Ink may surface; gently wash and reapply ointment as instructed.
- Shading may fade and colors may appear dull during the healing process; it usually takes up to four (4) weeks for a tattoo to fully heal. However, tattoo healing times differ for each person, as everyone’s body will react differently during the healing process.
KEY POINTS:
- Avoid heavy sweating around your tattoo for at least two weeks after your appointment.
- Avoid excessive use of ointment, salve, or lotion; let your tattoo breathe.
- Use SPF sunscreen whenever your tattoo is exposed to sunlight.
- Wear clean, comfortable clothes to prevent rubbing, change sheets frequently, and keep pets away.
